FREEDOM — A late Friday crash in Outagamie County left eight people injured, including four teenagers and two children.
Several of the injuries were serious, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Emergency crews needed assistance from two medical helicopters following the crash at about 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of Outagamie Counties E and N.

A van traveling north on County N failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a sport utility vehicle heading west on County E, according to the State Patrol.

The driver of the northbound van, Dorothy VanderWyst, 43, of Little Chute, had four passengers, including 14-, 15- and 17-year-old boys and a 16-year-old girl.

Oliver Behm, 30, of Appleton, drove the SUV. A 7-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy were passengers.

Crews arrived to find several injured people outside of the vehicles who police said were ejected during the crash.

The eight were taken by ambulance and the helicopters to Appleton Medical Center and Neenah’s Theda Clark Medical Center.

VanderWyst was listed in serious condition Saturday at Theda Clark.

Behm’s condition was not released because hospital officials were waiting for the family’s consent to release it.

Children’s conditions were not released. Some of them have been transferred to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

Police are continuing their investigation.
